Mount Pleasant Pool Still Not Funded, Marpole Outdoor Pool Delayed

Although the Vancouver Board of Parks & Recreation passed a motion that Mount Pleasant Outdoor Pool be partially funded in the 2023-2026 Capital Plan, City Council voted not to include it. Marpole’s Outdoor Pool, originally planned to be built along with the new Community Centre in 2023-2026, has been delayed indefinitely. Neither Mount Pleasant nor Marpole received any mid-term (2024) capital funding. Kitsilano Outdoor Pool did not open until August 7 in 2024 because of a serious leak in this aging pool. Vancouver’s Aquatic facilities continue to be underfunded even though Vancouver is growing in population. We are requesting that City Council include sufficient funds in the 2027-2030 Capital Plan to build both Mount Pleasant and Marpole neighbourhood outdoor pools.
